General Info

Summary

This is a 100 mile trail event conducted on the shortest day of the year in the UK. It consists of 20 x 5 mile loops out of our barn in Hertfordshire. Runners will return there each loop and can access their own supplies and the full spread that we will provide. Staff will work the race as usual. This is a no frills run. There is no award, no crew, no pacer, no supporters. It will be dark for the majority of the race. The conditions are likely to be cold and wet with the possibility that there will be snow/ ice on the ground. The course is a mixture of trail and country roads. The trails will be very muddy in places. It is an undulating course, with a total climb of around 5000ft over the 100 miles.

If you want to potentially take part then you can add yourself to the waiting list before 2359 on Friday 11th December. The link is at the top of the page. We will draw the list of start names at random, on Saturday 12th December. PLEASE do not put your name on the list unless you fully intend to take up your place, should you be offered one. We do not have time to go back and forth, with the race the following weekend and we do want 15 starters.

Two entries have been confirmed, these are our regular Centurion RD James Elson and all time mileage leader Ken Fancett. These do not count toward the 15 additional entries.

Entries

Runners wishing to be considered for the race can join the waiting list via the link higher up the page. Entries will close at 2359 on Friday 11th December 2020. At that point, 15 runners will be selected at random from that list and asked to confirm / make payment.

Entry fee is £75. There are no additional card fees.

Qualification Standard

In order to enter you must have completed a minimum of a 50 mile race within the cut off time of that event between 1st January 2017 and race day.

Start/ Finish Location

Start and finish is at Centurion HQ, our barn just outside of Wheathampstead, Hertfrodshire. Each 5 mile loop will return there, where runners can access their own supplies, and those that we provide.

Route

The race route is a mix of trail and country roads. The route will be shared with participants in the week prior to race day, it will be clearly marked.

Awards

No awards will be presented. If it is an award you are after, you have come to the wrong place.

Aid Stations

There will effectively be 20 aid stations, as runners return to the barn each loop, where we will provide our usual full spread of food and drink options.

Trackers

Trackers will be handed out at registration and collected back in at the race finish. The tracking system is provided by Open Tracking and uses OS Mapping software so the overall interface is superb. Runners will wear the tracker throughout the event, fixed to their pack or race vest. Throughout the race, runners live position data will be visible on the live tracking system, together with updated splits for each check point and of course the finish.

Pacers/ Crew/ Supporters

Are not permitted, anywhere, anytime.

Medical

A qualified first aider will be on site for the duration.

Covid

The race will be conducted within a fully covid secure environment. Masks must be worn at all times within the barn and sanitiser used before and after picking up any supplies from the open aid station. Runners will have their own food supplies in addition of course. Staff will wear PPE. Social distancing will be in place at all times. The runners in the barn will be spread out every 2 metres in their own space. Due to the size of the starting field, many of the usual Covid issues will be removed.

Runners must not travel to the event from a tier 3 area. Any runner, volunteer or staff member who has any sign of covid symptoms in the 14 days prior to the race, must not attend the event.
